Author Bio:

As the author of the best-selling mystery romance, Surviving Goodbye, Morgan Parker has written several other novels under this pen name. In 2012 and 2013, he self-published Textual Encounters and Textual Encounters: 2, respectively. As a result of the interest in these two stories, he wrote non friction, an unconventional love story. That love story earned Mr. Parker a tremendous amount of attention and at the insistence of his readers, he followed it with Hope (a novella) and Sick Day. All three of those stories have spent time on Amazon best-seller lists.

When not writing, Morgan likes to spend time gathering story material from his two young children, rereading books by Colin Harrison, and napping where he discovered the Type II Sleep State, which is the topic for an untitled trilogy to be released in late-2016.

tips and tricks for aspiring authors, how to get back into writing after few years

There are a billion excuses why not to write. That is where most people start. With the excuse.  “I can’t write because x, y, z.” The reality is, anyone can write... it is simply a matter of being disciplined with your time and talent.

Sitting down at the computer is often the most difficult obstacle to overcome. It’s akin to going to the gym. Once you put on your running shoes and gym clothes, the hard part is over. Same thing with writing.

People talk about writers’ block, but we don’t believe in it. Maybe you aren’t inspired one day. Maybe you sit down for five hours and write crap...there still may be one kernel of an idea within that crap which is viable. Some days, you sit down and it’s magical. But if you keep sitting down in front of the computer (or standing if you have one of those cool standing desks) then the ideas will flow.

Ritual is always important. We always start with a hot drink Coffee (Colette) and Tea (Sadie). Sipping from a mug is a way to slowly sooth your senses and get back into your story. The biggest tip we can offer... end in the middle of a thought or sentence, that way the following day you can start right up again and finish your thought. The momentum is already going in your favor. Another tip is read. Read everything you can. We are both avid readers and it is a terrific way to spur the imagination. We try not to read in the genre we are writing at the time, so during Anomalies, neither one of us read any YA lit; instead, we focused on some great spiritual books (Sadie) and zombie books (Colette). And get a comfortable chair. It makes a big difference.

Tips For Aspiring Authors:

Write daily. Write constantly

Rome wasn’t built in a day and a book needs time to finish. There is also that dreaded drafting and re-drafting of your manuscript. No matter how daunting writing your book may be, you just need to write constantly to get to the final period.

Be open to the world around you.

Writers are usually anti-social in nature. We spend long hours facing our computer screen, shut away from society. But most of the time, our writing is drawn from our experiences. Talk to people, travel and get inspired.

Have a marketing plan.

It doesn’t matter if you are self-publishing or have a publisher. You need a marketing plan. Use the marketing tools available to you, whether they be social media, conducting book tours or doing some form of publicity blitz. Authors need to be proactive in marketing their books.

Don’t give up.

Even if you don’t see any returns after publishing your book, it doesn’t mean you need to throw in the towel. Review your book publishing experience and see what could be done better. If you really feel that being an author is what you have been called to do, then don’t give up. Being an author is an upward climb. Try again, start working on your next book, build your fan base and you will reach the top of the mountain someday.

Just friends.We’re just friends.

No, really. She’s just my best friend…

Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)

Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.

Never thought about it.
Never wanted to.
Until one night changed everything.
At least, it should’ve …

Just friends.
We’re just friends.
I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…
